Teacher and tradition
Guru Purnima expresses respect for teachers and spiritual guides. Many Hindu traditions connect it with Vyasa, while Buddhist and Jain communities have their own contexts. A guru’s role and lineage differ among traditions. You may honour the contribution of your spiritual teacher and the teachers who helped you learn in ordinary life.
गुरु और परंपरा
गुरु पूर्णिमा में शिक्षकों और आध्यात्मिक गुरु के प्रति सम्मान व्यक्त किया जाता है। कई हिंदू परंपराएँ व्यास से इसका सम्बन्ध बताती हैं; बौद्ध और जैन समुदायों में भी अपने संदर्भ हैं। गुरु की भूमिका और वंश-परंपरा संप्रदाय के अनुसार बदलती है। अपनी परंपरा के गुरु और साधारण विद्यालय-शिक्षक दोनों के योगदान को सम्मान दे सकते हैं।
Prepare for the day
If visiting an ashram or temple, ask about the programme and admission arrangements. At home, remember your teacher, use your tradition’s prayer and study a teaching carefully. Gifts or donations can remain within your means; an expensive offering is not a necessary measure of devotion. Thanking a teacher and committing to practise what you learned can make the observance meaningful.
दिन की तैयारी
यदि किसी आश्रम या मंदिर में जाएँ तो कार्यक्रम और प्रवेश की व्यवस्था पूछें। घर में गुरु का स्मरण, अपनी परंपरा की प्रार्थना और किसी सीख का अध्ययन करें। उपहार या दान अपनी क्षमता के अनुसार हो; महँगा उपहार श्रद्धा का आवश्यक माप नहीं है। शिक्षक को धन्यवाद और सीखी बात के अभ्यास का संकल्प दिन को सार्थक बना सकता है।
Respect and discernment
Respect does not remove inquiry, understanding or personal responsibility. A religious title does not automatically verify every financial, medical or personal claim. Check the source of a teaching, keep room for questions and avoid giving under pressure against your wishes. Honouring a lineage can coexist with healthy learning and responsible conduct.
