- Clean the space. Arrange your image or murti and materials. Wash your hands and sit quietly.
- Bring the purpose of your worship to mind. Remember the divine in the manner of your household tradition.
- Light the lamp on a safe, stable surface. Offer water and flowers if this is part of your family practice.
- Read a related prayer below that belongs to your practice. Open the available meanings for unfamiliar words.
- Offer naivedya. Perform your familiar aarti if customary. After the prayer, share prasad.
- Sit quietly for a moment, then put materials away. Do not leave a burning lamp unattended.

Regional observances
Hanuman Jayanti is observed on different days in different regional traditions. Chaitra Purnima is familiar in many northern Indian communities, while other regions use different months and lunar dates. Identify the observance celebrated by your temple and its stated tradition. A sacred birth narrative does not by itself establish a verified historical birth year.

हनुमान जन्मोत्सव के दिन क्षेत्रीय परंपरा के अनुसार बदलते हैं। चैत्र पूर्णिमा का उत्सव कई उत्तर भारतीय समुदायों में प्रसिद्ध है, पर दूसरे क्षेत्रों में अन्य मास और तिथियाँ हैं। अपने मंदिर द्वारा मनाए जाने वाले दिवस को उसकी स्थानीय परंपरा के साथ देखें। जन्म-कथा धार्मिक आख्यान है; उससे कोई प्रमाणित ऐतिहासिक जन्म-वर्ष नहीं निकलता।
Prepare for a complete reading
Begin with a salutation in a quiet space and read the complete Hanuman Chalisa: both opening dohas, forty chaupais and the closing doha. An Ashtak, aarti or stuti can also be read in its complete named edition. Review the meanings of unfamiliar words first. Roman transliteration is a reading aid, rather than the only way to learn pronunciation. Prepare water, flowers and a modest offering according to your household practice.

शांत स्थान में हनुमानजी को प्रणाम करके पूरा हनुमान चालीसा पढ़ें: दोनों प्रारम्भिक दोहे, चालीस चौपाइयाँ और अंतिम दोहा। अष्टक, आरती या स्तुति भी अपने नामित पूरे संस्करण में पढ़ सकते हैं। पहले अर्थ देखकर कठिन शब्द समझें; Roman सहायक है, सही उच्चारण सीखने का एकमात्र साधन नहीं। जल, पुष्प और सादा नैवेद्य अपनी घरेलू परंपरा के अनुसार रखें।
Connect devotion and service
For a group Sundarkand reading, agree on a complete selected edition and allow sufficient time. An aarti may follow the recital, but it should not be labelled part of Tulsidas’s canto unless the edition actually includes it.
