Shakta traditions may understand Devi as supreme reality and the power of creation. Relationships between Durga, Kali, Parvati and other forms need the relevant text and lineage. Ritual procedures for one form do not automatically apply to every other form. Devi Mahatmya includes narratives of Mahishasura and Shumbha-Nishumbha. Present these as sacred narratives with interpretive traditions, rather than asserting a verified historical battle or reducing them to one modern allegory.

शाक्त परंपराएँ देवी को परमसत्य और सृष्टि की शक्ति के रूप में समझ सकती हैं। दुर्गा, काली, पार्वती और अन्य रूपों का सम्बन्ध ग्रंथ और संप्रदाय के अनुसार समझना चाहिए। एक रूप की सारी विधियाँ दूसरे में स्वतः लागू नहीं होतीं। देवीमाहात्म्य में महिषासुर-वध और शुम्भ-निशुम्भ जैसे आख्यान आते हैं। इन्हें धार्मिक आख्यान और उनकी व्याख्या के रूप में प्रस्तुत करें; ऐतिहासिक युद्ध की प्रमाणित रिपोर्ट या केवल एक आधुनिक allegory कह देना दोनों सीमित होंगे।
Image and symbolism
The website portrait follows the eighteen-armed Mahalakshmi meditation preceding chapter 2 of the Devi Mahatmya: a lotus seat, a serene face, and the eighteen listed implements. Durga has other scriptural forms with different arm counts and vehicles; this selected form does not stand for every depiction. The selected Mahishasuramardini witness includes all 21 stanzas, a supplied fruit verse and closing formula. Five apparent transcription errors are recorded as editorial corrections after comparison. Qualified textual review remains pending; this is not a certified critical edition.

Navratri and practice
Different regions follow different Devi celebrations, including Chaitra and Sharad Navratri. Fasting forms, kanya puja, readings and immersion practices need their local tradition. Specialised initiated or tantric disciplines should not be learned through a generic webpage. Begin, where appropriate, with simple household worship, a complete hymn and its explanation. A complete Devi Mahatmya or Saptashati edition is a separate project; this hymn is not the Saptashati.

The form depicted here
Devi Mahatmya, Mahalakshmi dhyana before chapter 2. Lotus seat and serene face; rosary, axe, mace, arrow, vajra, lotus, bow, water pot, staff, spear, sword, shield, conch, bell, ritual cup, trident, noose and discus. This is a named eighteen-arm form, rather than a single image for every form of Durga. Garment colour and the arm arrangement are artistic choices.

The named Mahalakshmi meditation form
The Durga portrait follows the Mahalakshmi meditation recited before chapter two of Devi Mahatmya. Its eighteen arms and objects belong to that named context. It is distinct from the lotus-dwelling Lakshmi portrayed from Kanakadhara; the same name can have different textual settings. Four-, eight-, ten- and eighteen-armed depictions can belong to different named forms. Their attributes should not all be combined into one image. Read the source for the particular form before evaluating its details.
महालक्ष्मी-ध्यान का नामित रूप

Hymn, Devi Mahatmya and tradition
Mahishasuramardini Stotram and Devi Mahatmya are different works. This collection includes the selected twenty-one-stanza hymn with its fruit verse and close; it is not the complete Devi Mahatmya or Durga Saptashati. Disputed traditional authorship is not presented as certified historical fact. Shakta practice can involve different levels of instruction and initiation. Beginners may read introductions and public prayers, while specialised mantra practice requires its own guidance. A short online explanation is not complete training.
