Unit 1

Roman transliteration ·

avinayamapanaya viṣṇo damaya manaḥ śamaya viṣayamṛgatṛṣṇām | bhūtadayāṃ vistāraya tāraya saṃsārasāgarataḥ || 1 ||

Editorial sense ·

The prayer asks Vishnu to remove arrogance, discipline the mind, quiet the mirage of sensory craving, expand compassion for beings and carry the devotee across samsara.

Unit 2

Roman transliteration ·

divyadhunīmakarande parimalaparibhogasaccidānande | śrīpatipadāravinde bhavabhayakhedacchide vande || 2 ||

Editorial sense ·

The poet bows to the lotus feet of the Lord of Shri, associated with the heavenly river and the fragrance of being, awareness and bliss, dispelling the distress of worldly existence.

Unit 3

Roman transliteration ·

satyapi bhedāpagame nātha tavāhaṃ na māmakīnastvam | sāmudro hi taraṅgaḥ kvacana samudro na tāraṅgaḥ || 3 ||

Editorial sense ·

Even when separation is overcome, the devotee belongs to the Lord, rather than possessing the Lord: a wave belongs to the ocean, while the ocean does not belong to a wave.

Unit 4

Roman transliteration ·

uddhṛtanaga nagabhidanuja danujakulāmitra mitraśaśidṛṣṭe | dṛṣṭe bhavati prabhavati na bhavati kiṃ bhavatiraskāraḥ || 4 ||

Editorial sense ·

The verse invokes the mountain-lifter, the younger brother of Indra, foe of hostile asuras, with Sun and Moon as eyes. It asks whether seeing the Lord will not overcome worldly bondage.

Unit 5

Roman transliteration ·

matsyādibhiravatārai- ravatāravatāvatā sadā vasudhām | parameśvara paripālyo bhavatā bhavatāpabhīto’ham || 5 ||

Editorial sense ·

The Lord who protects the Earth through incarnations such as Matsya is asked to protect the speaker, afraid of the suffering of samsara.

Unit 6

Roman transliteration ·

dāmodara guṇamandira sundaravadanāravinda govinda | bhavajaladhimathanamandara paramaṃ daramapanaya tvaṃ me || 6 ||

Editorial sense ·

Damodara, dwelling place of virtues, lotus-faced Govinda, is likened to Mount Mandara churning the ocean of existence. The devotee asks him to remove profound fear.

Unit 7

Roman transliteration ·

nārāyaṇa karuṇāmaya śaraṇaṃ karavāṇi tāvakau caraṇau| iti ṣaṭpadī madīye vadanasaroje sadā vasatu || 7 ||

Editorial sense ·

The speaker takes refuge in compassionate Narayana’s feet and asks that this sixfold prayer remain always in the lotus of the mouth.

Unit trailer
